Editing in Modern Zombie Films

In more recent years, zombie films have incorporated both continuity and discontinuity editing elements in order to achieve the specific level and type of horror or suspense desired.
Three additional fundamental elements used by filmmakers in the modern day horror films including the zombie subgenre include color, sound, and perspective.
Recent zombie films such as Zombieland utilize discontinuity editing techniques, like nondiegetic elements and montages, as well as continuity techiques such as establishing/re-establishing shots and the eyeline match.

The screen shots to the right represent nondiegetic elements such as subtitles in the first shot, on-screen text in the second and third shot, and lastly, voice over narration in the final shot.
